Steinbier Lager by Steel & Oak Brewing and Fregeist

It’s been a bit since I’ve dipped in to the giant S and O pile o’ brews. This one was gifted to me by a good friend of mine, who’s friend status has officially been elevated to.. Whatever is higher than good but still under best. I have a rigid ranking of friends, and that order doesn’t move very often. No I’m not going over the list, that’ll just hurt feelings. All you need to know is someone just got bumped from the top ten. Grant.

Titty Hill sounds fun. Right by Motorboat Crest.

Pay no mind to the bubbly label, as apparently they were having problems with the labeling process. Something to do with moisture or possibly aerated dihydrogen monoxide. This beer came right off the line too, so I feel extra special even though this has happened to me a few times now. It never stops being awesome. I use the word awesome too often. Fucking awesome.

If you’ve never been to Steel & Oak Brewing, you’ve made a grave mistake in your life path. They have a (tiny) beautiful sitting room in a peculiar location, right under the skytrain, beside a shit-ton (actual measurement) of trains and trains tracks. It’s worth checking out if you don’t mind driving in New Westminister. I mind. Fuck that town and it’s neverending hills and 30km speed limits. Fuckin grandma driving.

Good drivers should be rewarded with free kills.

The pour is a clear, deep orange-amber, with a finger of thick tan bubbles. Has some pretty beefy lacing. This is a lager? Duhfuk. Duh. FUHK.

The smells are pretty mild and.. Lager-ey. Much description, wow. Wheat grain, slight sweetness and herbal hop. Smells like every lager, ever.

The tastes are undeniably lager, but this is a really, really good lager. Like, holy shit. It’s wheat, and herbs like your standard lager, but it has a real heartiness to it and a wonderful lingering sweetness on the aftertaste. This is the tastiest lager I’ve ever had… DURFURK.

The mouthfeel is light, and crushable like a lager should be. Has good carbonation. Flavors do a slow wash from front to back, leaving a nice, soft malty sweetness behind.

4.5/5 This is the best lager/lager hybrid/mystery fuck I’ve ever had. I hope this is a mainstay, because it is fantastic! This is a beer that every beer drinker could appreciate. You should go appreciate this, right the fuck now. GO.

He’s stoked because 3-way. You know it.
